Master Plan is a blue print for current and future residents A Word from the Board President
In 1978, when the Del Webb Development Company broke ground on Sun City West, John Meeker’s vision was clear; to build the gold standard in retirement communities. Meeker’s “gold standard” master plan and vision led to the creation of what today remains one of the premier retirement communities in the nation. Just like the role a master plan played in creating Sun City West, later this month the Governing Board and the community will see the results of an in-depth master planning process completed over the past year. A community inspired master plan will help ensure the success of Sun City West well beyond our 50th anniversary. The master plan is truly a community effort and the involvement of the community was exceptional. You were engaged in countless roundtable sessions, focus groups, surveys and online whiteboards. In fact, the consultants who helped guide the master plan process often complimented the high degree of engagement of our residents. Your input, literally hundreds of ideas and recommendations, culminated in the master plan recommendations we will see in two sessions later this month. The master plan will be presented at the Governing Board workshop at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the Lecture Hall. Later the same day, the plan will be presented a second time in a community wide presentation at 1 p.m. in the RH Johnson Social Hall. At the Governing Board Regular Meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in the Lecture Hall, the Governing Board will then vote to accept the completed master plan document. The master plan, based on your feedback and input throughout the process, will give the Governing Board and the community
recommendations on projects and actions to recommendations onprojects and actions to consider as part of our overall strategic plan. The master plan will be a long-term, forward look at the things you told us are important to preserve and the areas to improve so we maintain the Sun City West experience for our current and future residents. Acceptance of the master plan does not commit the Board or the community to implementing any of the recommendations contained within it. Once the plan is accepted by the Board, the Board will, over time, consider each of the recommendations for inclusion in the strategic plans that are updated each year. Any recommendations considered will go through the same capital projects review, budgeting and approval process as is followed today. continued on page 10 HOURS PRESIDENT’S MONDAY, OCT. 5 9 TO 11 A.M.
